Job Title: Systems Administrator Reports To: Director of Technology Location: Newcastle, Oklahoma Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Position Overview The Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of Newcastle Public Schools’ IT infrastructure, including servers, network systems, virtualization platforms, and endpoint devices. This role requires strong technical expertise, effective problem-solving skills, and the ability to support educational and administrative operations across the district.
Primary Responsibilities Ensure the availability, performance, and security of the district's IT infrastructure — servers, network, virtualization platforms, and endpoint systems.
Manage and support Active Directory, including user account provisioning, group policy management, and permissions for students, staff, and faculty.
Assist with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Monitor system performance and logs; proactively address vulnerabilities and operational issues.
Coordinate with vendors for hardware, software, and network service procurement and support.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district regulations such as FERPA and CIPA.
Provide tier-2 and tier-3 technical support for complex issues.
Oversee upgrades, patches, and deployments to minimize operational disruption.
Collaborate with district leadership to plan future technology initiatives supporting teaching, learning, and operations.
General Job Duties Install, configure, and maintain servers, endpoints, printers, and network components.
Perform regular system maintenance, including updates, patching, performance tuning, and security audits.
Troubleshoot technical issues across multiple district sites, including remote locations.
Document system configurations, procedures, and incident responses.
Train and support IT help desk staff and end-users in technology usage and policies.
Assist with inventory management of hardware and software assets.
Enforce district IT policies related to acceptable use, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
Participate in after-hours maintenance and emergency support as needed.
Stay current with emerging technologies relevant to K–12 education.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of systems administration experience, preferably in an educational or public-sector environment.
Proven expertise in Windows Server environments, virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and Active Directory.
Familiarity with educational technology platforms (SIS/LMS) and understanding of K–12 operational needs.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls), DNS, DHCP, and remote access solutions.
Experience with backup/disaster recovery tools, monitoring systems, and cybersecurity best practices.
Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, etc.).
Preferred Certifications:
CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Google certifications, or equivalent.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication skills for translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Ability to collaborate with educators, administrators, vendors, and students.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements Office and school-site environments with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work on ladders, in tight spaces, or outdoors when necessary.
Occasional evening or weekend work for maintenance and emergencies.
